Max Chandler

Max Chandler is an artist who divides his time between Scottsdale, Arizona and San Francisco, California. He finds that both areas inspire and invigorate his art. He has been a frequent visitor to Arizona since early childhood where he became fascinated by desert life. San Francisco is a city of great beauty and its proximity to much of high technology has contributed to his art and life.

Chandler uses robots as a tool to enhance the mark making in his paintings. He can achieve mathematical precision of curves and still be able to control exposure to beneficial random and accidental marks.

He has been drawing almost daily since he was a preschooler. Because he was also very good at math and science, his college education went in a different direction. He studied mathematics at MIT, but it proved not to be the best direction for him. After learning Chinese in U.S. military schools, he attended graduate school in Taiwan where he majored in art history.

Chandler says the strongest part of his art background was the years he studied with Chen Ting-shih, an internationally renowned painter.
